Overview

This assignment gives you an opportunity to examine how a public health organization puts a public health theory or model into action through their efforts to improve public health.

In this assignment, you will:

  • Study how a public health organization is currently working to address a public health issue.
  • Apply the appropriate theory or model to deepen your understanding of how the organization works to improve public health for their constituents.
  • Connect what you have read in scholarly journals about a current public health issue to the real-world challenges faced by organizations working to make a positive difference in the field of public health.

Instructions

  1. Select a public health issue and describe the impact of a current public health issue in your community. Be sure to cite your sources for the impact information you provide.
  2. Identify an organization that is currently working on this public health issue in your local community. Do some background investigation of their activities:
    • Visit the organizations Web site and Facebook page or other social media.
    • Search the library to find out if there are any published studies referencing the organization.
  3. Identify and apply a  theory or a model (at the community level) and determine how well it aligns with the interventions the organization is currently using.
  4. Use your theory or model to explain how the various activities of the organization will help improve public health for their constituents. In your explanation, provide examples that demonstrate how the theory or model does or does not support their activities.
  5. Using an appropriate theory or model, propose several recommendations for the organization to improve the outcomes for their constituents. Support your recommendations with the literature, Remember to use APA format and style to cite your sources.

Overview

Create a 23 page paper discussing evidence-based public health practices related to a specific public health issue. 

Preparation

Select one of the following public health issues and examine evidence-based public health practices:

  • Obesity.
  • Transportation to health center.
  • School violence.
  • Zika virus.

Complete the following:

  • Discuss the issue:
    • Describe the problems related to this public health issue.
    • Present properly cited evidence to support your description of the issue.
  • Discuss practices and interventions:
    • Which evidence-based practices or interventions does the literature suggest to address the issue?
    • How effective are the interventions?
  • Describe a public health organization or agency that is attempting to address this issue:
    • Which of their interventions have proven effective in reducing the impact of the health issue?
    • What are some controversies that may arise from actions that an agency has taken or may take?
  • Based on the evidence and what you can ascertain about practices currently used by this agency, is there anything that could be changed or improved upon? What would you recommend the agency focus on?

Pharmacokinetics And Pharmacodynamics

 Reflect on a case from your past clinical experiences and consider how a patients pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes may alter his or her response to a drug.

To Prepare

Review the Resources for this module and consider the principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.

Reflect on your experiences, observations, and/or clinical practices from the last 5 years and think about how pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic factors altered his or her anticipated response to a drug.

Consider factors that might have influenced the patients pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes, such as genetics (including pharmacogenetics), gender, ethnicity, age, behavior, and/or possible pathophysiological changes due to disease.

Think about a personalized plan of care based on these influencing factors and patient history in your case study.
